1. Will I be able to be
hypnotised?
Yes, anyone can be hypnotised as long as they want to. The only
people who cannot be hypnotised are those who do not want to be. A Hypnotherapist cannot
force you into hypnosis against your will.
2. Will I lose control?
No. This is a very common misconception about hypnosis. The Hypnotherapist has no
control over you & cannot compel you to do anything. Your subconscious mind is there to
protect you & would not allow you to do something against your will, morals or beliefs.
You choose to enter the hypnotic state & you can leave it at any stage.
class="head">3. How can hypnotherapy help resolve problems?
During hypnosis we
are mentally & physically relaxed. This in itself is highly beneficial as a stress
reliever. This relaxed state results in our minds working more efficiently. In hypnosis,
there is a reduction of critical analysis, so we are more susceptible to beneficial
suggestions & other techniques, that we may have dismissed at a conscious level, due to
a lack of self confidence or self belief. This increases the level of success tenfold. It is
also in this relaxed state that we can gain insights & obtain resources used in the
past, or acquire resources from the future to help resolve problems.
class="head">4. Will I go to sleep?
No. ?Hypnotic sleep? has no resemblance to
normal sleep. Your body & mind will be deeply relaxed but you will be fully alert, with
a sense of heightened awareness. You would not able to learn very much, or tap into
resources if you were asleep. A Hypnotherapist may use the word sleep during a session
which triggers the body & mind to relax very deeply.
5. Are
there any side effects?
There are absolutely no negative side effects from
hypnotherapy. Hypnosis is a totally natural, safe process. You will leave the session
feeling very relaxed & confident.
6. How many sessions will I
need?
This varies from person to person depending on the problem. Hypnotherapy is
a brief therapy. You will not need to see a Hypnotherapist for months on end. Sometimes one
to three sessions are sufficient. For others 4 - 8 sessions may be needed. Some people stop
smoking after just one 90 minute session, for others, it takes a bit longer.
class="head">7. What is being in hypnosis like?
Given that we are all unique,
people experience the hypnotic state differently. However, the most common theme reported is
pleasant, deep relaxation. Some people report being in a hypnotic state as being the most
relaxed they have ever been. This natural, altered state of awareness, allows you to become
oblivious of external distractions & get in touch with the inner powerful you, which has
the solution to all your problems.
8. Can I get "stuck"
in a trance?
Again, this is a very common myth about hypnosis. It is impossible
to get stuck in a trance. You are free to come out of the hypnotic state at any time you
choose. You are in control of your own experience. Some people find that they are so deeply
relaxed & comfortable that they do not want to leave the state at the end of the
session. You will always leave the session feeling fully grounded & alert.
class="head">9. I have seen people do embarrassing things during stage hypnosis on the
television. If I come to see you, will you make me dance around like a chicken?
Only if that is your hearts desire! On a serious note, stage hypnosis &
clinical hypnosis are completely different. Stage hypnosis exists purely for entertainment
value. People who perform on stage do so because they want to. These people are generally
extroverts who enjoy entertaining an audience. They are frequently hand picked for their
out-going nature. It is impossible to compel someone to do something in hypnosis because
they would come out of the hypnotic state. Remember, your subconscious mind is there to
protect you & would not let you do anything against your will.
Clinical
hypnosis is induced for therapeutic purposes so people can resolve problems & make
positive changes in their lives. The two serve totally different purposes. Clinical
Hypnotherapists consider it unethical instigating such situations.

absolutely everything mentioned.

between hypnotherapy & hypnosis?
Hypnosis refers to the ?state? that the
person experiences, whilst hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis to treat medical &
psychological problems.

An initial session commences with a confidential, detailed discussion outlining
the issue(s) causing you concern & your goal of the therapy. You are free to ask as many
questions as you like to put to rest any further misconceptions you may have about hypnosis.
A course of treatment will be recommended & you will then be gently guided into hypnosis
by me. It is said that all hypnosis is self-hypnosis & you will remain in control of
your experience at all times Subsequent sessions consist of a split between discussion
& hypnosis.
